About Natalie Patchment

I am a creative mum, doing my part to encourage my children and other people to celebrate natural hair. I get asked questions about the 'Platinum colour' in the front of my hair but it's all natural.

I haven’t always been natural.  My cousin come over the night before my 16th birthday to relax my hair. I loved it but it wasn't me. I then grow out of the need to look like everyone else and cut my relaxed hair and grew locs. Also I needed to make changes to my lifestyle and diet to improve my health. I stopped relaxing my hair nearly 10 years ago as part of the process and never turned back.

“I get asked questions about having the confidence to wear my natural hair to work from other women. I've experienced natural hair discrimination in the past...we shouldn't be made to feel uncomfortable with hair in natural styles. Being part of the campaign is a great opportunity to encourage others to go forward and be themselves... naturally.”

I get asked questions about having the confidence to wear my natural hair to work from other women. I've experienced natural hair discrimination in the past. There's nothing wrong with people being curious but we shouldn't be made to feel uncomfortable with hair in natural styles.

Being part of the campaign is a great opportunity to encourage others to go forward and be themselves... naturally.

It was so incredible to be one of the finalists in the 2019 Project Embrace Campaign. I was very excited to share the campaign with friends and colleagues at my place of work and serving the community through a public sector organisation, I assume that this would be warmly welcomed. However although we were able to hold an event to share the campaign with the organisation, the numbers were low because the promotional posters that were put up around building were removed on two occasions.

Unfortunately the building managers were unable to confirm who removed the posters that they had put up but clearly everybody wasn't so excited by the idea of promoting natural hair.

Nevertheless my love for my crown has continued to grow and I've been able to enjoy this journey with my young daughter and my son who have also embraced their natural features.

We continue to support other campaigns and invest in natural products to ensure that we are doing our best to love ourselves exactly how we are.

Thank you Project Embrace.
